Genre Research: Bird Box
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? The elements they have in common is suspense, fear, anticipation and tension. They may have these elements in common but in my final task they are going to be expressed in a different way. Since my final task is being based on someone getting kidnapped, already it's a very tense film. Also, suspense is going to help lead to the kidnapping because it's going to aware the watchers something is up. So, it's also going to influence a person's anticipation. But, my task will end with a cliffhanger. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? This movie had a lot of elements from the thriller genre. It had elements like suspense, fear, tension, anticipation, violence and danger. I really favortized the suspense and the tension in the movie. Suspense was created from the opening of the movie where you only saw a river. This was due to the fact that they also had music in the background making it creepy. Also, it was supper dim like the shot was an aerial shot and you could see that the shy looked gray and it just created suspense. I also enjoyed tension a lot because it kept me on edge. Also, the exotic location on the film gave it a really good touch to the movie because just the setting was already making you senses expect something. The location also helped with the danger element. The reason for those two elements going hand in hand was because the setting itself enhanced that feeling of danger. Especially in the beginning of the movie where everything started going wrong and people were killing themselves and the whole town was being destroyed. The violence in the film made the movie more exciting in my opinion. What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you? The main element I didn't enjoy was anticipation. The reason for this was because I didn't like that fact that I already had a feeling of what to expect. I like having questions and being surprised because it makes the movie better. The feeling of being surprised is better because it was so unexpected.
